Journal Entry #1: Initial thoughts and feelings My thoughts and feeling about this class is that I am very excited to be taking this psychology class. At first I thought it was going to be very hard & stressful but it looks like its going to be really fun. I never created my own website before and I am very thrilled to do something like this. I'm looking forward to updating my site every week and to be as creative as I can be.
Student#1 David's page looks typical but could've been more creative. He came to CSHS his sophomore year. Before that he went to a lot of schools and moved a lot. He played varsity basketball and was a good athlete. He enjoys hanging out withy friends and always loves to have a good laugh.
Student #2 Caylana's page is really creative and keeps the theme through the whole page. She has been attending CSHS her whole life and she loves to do a lot of activities like swimming, daisies, shopping, and apples. She wants enough money to buy a fast car and travel the world when pleased.
Student #3 Taylor's page is very neat and nice she attends CSHS and likes to play sports such as soccer, volleyball, and track. Taylor loves ice cream (any kind) which is good because I do too also shes 17 loves friends and laughing.
Journal entry #2: Jean Piaget's Constructivist Theory of Cognitive Development The brilliant psychologist Jean Piagets founder of the cognitive development of child. He wondered why the kids answered questions wrong that was logical thinking his belief was that these incorrect answers showed important differences between the thinking of kids and adults. The goal of his study was to explain the processes by which the infant and child develops into different groups that can think and have a hypothesis. There are three basic components to piglets theory the first is schemas, defined as the basic building blocks of intelligent behavior. schema is a way or organizing knowledge it is useful to think of schemas as units or groups of knowledge each one having a connection to the world like objects, actions, and themselves. The second component is adaption processes that enable the transition from one stage to another this is when they make adjustments to the world which this is still using a form of schema to deal with a new subject or situation. Last is the stages of development first stage is the sensorimotor this occurs in 0-2 years of age this stage is the object performance to deal with self object. Example the child shakes the rattle to make noise he knows if he shakes it then he'll get the pleasure of the noise. Second stage is preoperational 2-7 years old and they start to learn and use language including to see imagery and words. Third stage is concrete operational between 7-11 years old this is when they can start to think logically about objects and events. Last stage is formal operational this occurs at 11 and up of age this is when they start to think who they are starts to form a group also be concerned with their future.
Journal Entry #3: Erik Erikson's stages of Psychosocial Development Erik Erikison the founder of psychosocial development his research says that you will go through all eight stages while you develop and get older. First stage is the infant stage, this occurs at birth to when you're 18 months of age. The basic conflict is trust vs. mistrust when the child develops a sense of trust with their caretakers and if there is a lack of trust then it could lead to mistrust allowing the child to put themselves in their own box and nobody will be allowed in. Stage two the toddler stage this occurs between the ages 2 and 3 and the conflict of the stage is autonomy vs. shame and doubt another wise toilet training the child needs to develop a sense of personal control. If they're successful then that will lead to autonomy but if they fail then that will lead them to the shame and doubt. Stage three is the preschooler stage and this occurs between the age of 3 and 5 where they start to explore. The conflict is inactive vs. Guilt the child has to developing control and power over the environment. Success in this stage leads them to a since of purpose if the child tries to have to much power then that will lead to experience of disapproval and that results in a source of guilt. Stage four occurs between the age 6 and 11 years of age this is when they start realizing school also the conflict is industry vs. inferiority. The child develops a new social and academic demand therefore success will lead a sense of competence while failure will result in weakness. Stage five is the teenage life starting to mature and starting to form social relationships this occurs between 12 and 18 years of age. The conflict of this stage is that identity vs. role confusion, the out comes are that the teenagers need to develop a sense of self and personal identity. If they are successful with this stage they will stay true to themselves but failure can lead to confusion and be week to themselves. Stage 6 is the young adult hood when they start to form relationships with others this is between the ages 19 to 40 years of age and these young adults need to start to form a intimate, loving relationships with the other people. success in this stage will lead them to strong, loving, and happy relationships while failure results in loneliness and isolation. Stage seven is the middle adult hood when they start to be parents and having a job therefore a family. this occurs between the ages 40 to 65. The adults need to create or nurture something that will out live them therefore like having a child or creating a positive change that benefits other people. Success in this stage will lead to a feeling of usefulness and accomplished, while failure leads to shallow involvement in the world. Last stage, Stage eight called maturity important events in this stage is reflection on life. The older adults need to look back on their life and feel a sense of achievement. Success will lead to wisdom but failure will make you look back and see all the regrets as well as bitterness. Journal Entry #4 Sigmund Freud psychosexual developmental stages Sigmund Freud, the most well known theorist when it comes to developmental of personalilty. Sigmund freud has 5 stages to his development theory and the stages are just like the other ones. The connections between his and the other stages are that they either result in a successful completion or result in failure to the completion. The first stage of his development is the oral stage when the child is fixcateded on sucking and this occurs between birth to 18 months of age. During this stage the childs oral pleasure is sucking and this type of personaility may have a tendency to smoke, drink alcholol, over eat. or bite on their nails. For sigmund freud he is always smoking a cigar and that is his oral plessure but personality wise the individuals may become overly dependent upon others and become gullable or even become followers. They may fight these urges and develop agression towrds others. The second stage is the Anal stage (18 months-3 years old) this is the potty training where the kids get their plessure from using the bathroom. through this stage the child has to learn to control Anal stimulants like knowing if the child has to use the restroom then the child will use the toilet instead of going to the bathroom in his/her pants. Effects in this stage result in anal fixation and can lead to obsession with cleanliness, perfection, and control. On the other spectrum they may become messy and disorganized. The third stage is the Phallic stage (ages 3 to 6) , a stage where the pleasure zone switches to the genitals. Boys develop a unconscious sexual desire for there mother and become a competitor with his dad for the mothers affection. Because of this competition, boys fear that their father will punish them. These feelings that they have are called Oedipus complex. It was later discovered that girls go through the same stage as the boys but with their father. Freud disagreed with this but it has become known as the Electra Complex by recent psychoanalysts. Success in this stage leads to masculine characteristics and identifies himself as a male. Along with this the boy also learns to control his sexual feelings towards his mother. A fixation in this stage would result in confused sexual identity. The fourth stage is the Latency stage (age 6 to puberty). In this stage Kids start to form their groups within the same sex. The children learn who they are and begin to go through puberty. In this stage there is no further psychosexual development. Latent means hidden therefore all sexual impulses/energy is gone. The last stage is the Genital stage (puberty on). In this stage adolescents experiment in their sexual urges. this includes finding a one-to-one relationship with someone in their 20s. Freud explains that the proper sexual instincts in adults are through heterosexual intercourse. Because some adolescents fixate on the oral stage it may occur that a person gains sexual pleasure primarily from kissing and oral sex, rather than sexual intercourse. Journal Entry #5 Lawrence Kohlberg's stages of moral development In Kohlberg's story, Heinz's wife was dyeing from cancer and the drug needed to help her gain her life back was to expensive for him to purchase. Because he was desperate to save his wife's life, Heinz's broke into the drug store and got the drug needed for his wife. Lawrence Kohlberg asks whether Heinz's should have stolen the drug. I say he should have because it was for his wife who he loved. It makes it right to steal in this incidence because he was desperate to save the love of his life. Kohlberg also asks if anything would change if Heinz's did not love his wife. I believe it does change the situation because love is a powerful thing and Heinz's wouldn't have risks getting into trouble over someone he didn't love. The next question Lawrence Kohlberg asks is what if the person dying was a stranger, would it make any difference? I think it depends on how good of a person Heinz's was. Seeing someone dying can really affect a person and I don't think anyone could watch someone pass away if there was a solution to do something to stop it. The last question Kohlberg asks is if the police should arrest the chemist for murder if the women died. I don't think they should arrest the chemist because Heinz didn't have enough money to meet the price the chemist was asking for and the chemist needed to make money for the drug that he discovered. Lawrence Kohlberg had three levels of Moral Development and the first level is Pre-Conventional Morality (most 9 year olds and younger). This level describes the rules we follow from our parents as we grow up and the consequences that follow if we break them. There are two stages that are in level one. Stage 1, The Obedience and Punishment Orientation. An individual will be good to avoid punishment and if they are punished then they did wrong. Stage 2, Individualism and Exchange. Children discover that there is more that one right view handed down by authority. Different individuals view things differently. Level two of Moral Development is Conventional Morality (most adolescents and adults). In this level, adults begin to incorporate the moral standards of role models. Adults internalize authority and do not question them and reasoning is based on where a person belongs. Stage 3 is Good Interpersonal Relationships. In this stage, an individual will be good so he/she will be seen as a good person by others. Stage 4 is Maintaining the Social Order. This stage describes how an individual becomes aware of the rules of society so he/she doesn't face judgment with the law and guilt. The last level in Kohlberg's Moral Development is Post-Conventional Morality (10-15% of adults not before mid 30s). This level describes how the self-chosen assumptions and proper reasoning is based on individual rights and justice. Stage 5, Social Contracts and Individual Rights, describes how individuals become aware that rules exist for the good of most people, but there are times that the rules will go against particular individuals. Stage 6 is Universal Principles. In this stage people develop their own guidelines and either go with or against the law. Journal Entry #6 Lev Vygotskys social Development Theory
